Yes. Dry AMD progresses to wet AMD in some patients. The risk of developing wet AMD in people with early dry AMD in both eyes has been estimated at 1 to 4.7 percent at one year and 13 to 18 percent at three years. Therefore, patients with dry AMD need close follow up and examination by a retina specialist.
